Growing up in an environment where all forms of self-expression were valued and encouraged, I started at a very young age to use my creativity. I tried many art forms, but visual arts turned out to be my best outlet.
Although many well-known artists such as Picasso, Frida Khalo and Borduas have influenced me, I have other models, people close to me who have no fame, but whose works of art have moved me. They played an important role in shaping and tinting my own.
I use paper in the same way that I use acrylic paints: I superimpose layers of varying sizes to obtain colours. The folds and the layers of paper and wood add to the textures and contrasts when they are highlighted with varnish. This juxtaposition of different elements and materials is an accurate reflection of who I am.
Time, light and urban settings inspire me.
Time, and the space it occupies in one's life fascinates me. I think that we give time so much importance, especially to say that we don't have the time. I've always wanted to honour time. I love time, especially the one that you savour, the one that you can feel moving inside you and that leaves its signature.
Recent events in my life and in the world are the in-breath of my creation with the inspiration coming from how humans deal with each other. I try to translate human relations into light that makes the colours more vibrant and alive. My artistic out-breath is the expression of my personal growth. Through this exhalation, I make sense of the events that have marked me and acknowledge the players in my life.
The urban setting of Montréal, where I live,is in the background of my human play. How could they not inspire me? I like to imagine that I see the city from above, that for a few brief moments, I am taller than it is. I can in this way unmask and analyse it, discover it and be allowed into the intimacy of the living entity that it is. My perception of it then becomes the fabric of my work.
